Jeri Fox interviewed about seaweed on WGME

On December 2, 2015, Jeri Fox, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Marine Sciences, was interviewed on WGME for a news segment about the burgeoning seaweed industry in Maine.

In addition to displaying seaweed that is being grown in the Marine Science Center’s Macroalgae Nursery and Research Cluster, Fox discussed the benefits of growing and consuming seaweed, calling it “the perfect food.”

“It actually grows from the nutrients that are in the water, and it sort of cleans the water,” she explained. “So, it does us a service while also growing and becoming a food for us as well.”
