51°µÍøCOM and Southern Maine Health Care receive certificate of recognition from Maine Quality Counts

The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (51°µÍøCOM) and Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) were recently awarded a certificate of recognition in the Patient-Provider Partnership Initiative by Maine Quality Counts, the state of Maine’s health improvement collaborative.

This certificate recognized the Low Back Pain Initiative recently completed by 51°µÍøCOM’s Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. The program implemented a new patient-physician collaboration for low back pain management with an emphasis on patient ownership of health management.

Meghan Johnson, D.O., resident in 51°µÍø's Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Fellowship program spearheaded the project under the supervision of Jane Carreiro, D.O., department chair, and Stacey Pierce-Talsma, D.O. . Chris Frothingham, DO, and Garrett Edwards, D.O.
